The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH on a four-lane highway with the cruise control deactivated, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated. The contact stated that the vehicle accelerated above 100 MPH. During the failure, the cruise control erroneously activated but the speed was not displayed. The contact attempted to stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal but it accelerated instead. OnStar was contacted for assistance and moments later the vehicle decelerated and was driven to the shoulder. The contact stated that the vehicle travelled approximately 3 miles before the vehicle decelerated. The contact exited the vehicle, and there was smoke coming from the wheel wells and the brake pads. A tow truck was called to the scene, and the vehicle was towed to a local dealer. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.
