SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190914-A22D2-2147377687. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Product: DSAVIC ML: DC9096 (Lithium-ion Battery Pack for (OEM) DeWALT cordless drill. 18V 5000mAh Battery Pack Direct replacement for OEM Part# DC9096 Sold by Amazon.com Ordered on August 12, 2019 Order# 112-2568799-7477041 Amazon merchant seller name: Jialitt Amazon Merchant Info: https://www.amazon.com/sp?_encoding=UTF8&asin=&isAmazonFulfilled=1&isCBA=&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&orderID=112-2568799-7477041&seller=AGS089MMHXPF3&tab=&vasStoreID=). Incident: On August 15, 2019 I had a lithium-ion battery pack explode while in the charger which subsequently caught my house on fire. The battery exploded into a number of individual cells which continued to explode one-by-one starting several separate fires in my garage. It took two full fire extinguishers to put out the multiple fires over the course of 10 to 15 minutes . The battery pack had just been purchased from Amazon.com and installed into the charger about 6:30 pm on 09/14/2019. The battery pack exploded at 10:30 am the next morning 09/15/2019. The battery pack was an after-market direct replacement for a [REDACTED] cordless drill and sold as such. The battery pack was manufactured in China. I had fire damage and some property damage to my garage. If my wife and I had not been home at the time, or had the battery exploded during the middle of the night while we were sleeping the entire house would have gone up in flames. It was very fortunate that we heard the explosion and that I had two fire extinguishers ready nearby to quickly put out the multiple fires. Im also lucky that I was not seriously injured while doing that since I only had shorts and sandals on at the time. I only sustained small burns on one toe and the top of my left foot where I came into contact with some of the hot metal or plastic while extinguishing the fires. There were lithium-ion cells still exploding
