On a Switch V2, the left Joy-Con connected and played but would not charge with a dead battery. Owner swapped batteries between left and right Joy-Cons: the formerly right battery stayed full in the left shell while the depleted battery charged fine in the right Joy-Con, isolating a charging-circuit fault in the left controller.
