Gas or Lp Grills or Stoves (For Outdoor Use) (3248)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 22, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130318-0E083-2147457763. Product: Weber Weber Genesis 310. Incident: I own a Weber 310 natural gas grill. Several times when I put the Weber grill cover back on the unit, it bumps the burner knobs and turns the gas on. This has happened three times since owning the grill. This last time it was on for over 24 hours. It's winter and I just happened to go out back where the grill is and got a strong odor of gas. I called Weber and they said it is not a manufacturing defect. While it not be a defect, it certainly is a safety problem. The knobs turn very easy. There is no locked position. My past grill, it was required to push down to unlock and then turn. These just turn and once the cover is on there is no way to tell if the burners are on. Weber says to turn off my natural gas supply to the grill when it's not in use. While this is the fix to stay safe, it is not practical.
