SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260705-C5F54-2147314436. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Creality K2 Plus (3 D Printer). Incident: "The product in question is a Creality K2 Plus desktop 3D printer. Over a period of several weeks, the machine occasionally exhibited signs of uncontrolled overheating, temporarily emitting brief bursts of smoke from the printhead before normalizing. On the day of the primary incident, the machine suffered a catastrophic failure of its onboard safety firmware, specifically its Thermal Runaway Protection system. While running, the printer continuously forced maximum electrical current to the hotend heater cartridge without stopping. The machine failed to trigger an automated safety shutdown or cut power. The temperature spiked significantly past the maximum safe operational threshold (exceeding an estimated 450C to 500C). This extreme heat completely liquefied and melted the factory-installed high-grade silicone heat sock, which then ignited into an active open flame. The fire spread upward through the toolhead, completely destroying the hotend adapter PCB board, wire harnesses, structural frame plastics, and the cooling fans. The fire was contained manually by disconnecting the main wall power supply, but it posed an immediate threat of structural home fire and toxic smoke inhalation. The manufacturer's built-in safety controls completely failed to prevent this fire hazard."
