Reliability signal

—

7 confirmed failure reports · Early signal · Data confidence: Low

Early signal (7 confirmed reports) suggests shorter ownership before failure (typical 16 mo), but that is not enough data for a D or F grade.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20241025-0D2E9-2147335744. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Polaris 2016 RZR 900 Trail. Incident: My son was operating a 2024 Polaris Razor 900 Trail Sport. When it turned over onto its passenger side he noticed fire coming from the front. He and his friend both were able to climb from it and move to a safe location without receiving any injury, but the Razor burned and was a total loss. This was investigated by a Polaris representative but Polaris stated that they could not find any defective part or nothing in the manufacturing that could have caused the fire. The vehicle was 6 months old.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120414-89557-2147468427. Matched catalog product: Polaris 2016 RZR 900 Trail. Source model text: 2012 Polaris Ranger RZR XP 900 / R12JT87AB. Incident: My wife and I were riding an ohv trail near Florence Arizona in our new 2012 Polaris Ranger RZR XP 900, along with friends and members of our ATV club. We left our campsite at about 10:30 am on or about Friday March 16, 2012 and had been on the trail maybe 4 hours and heading back to camp. We stopped a number of times for water and lunch break and to view the scenery. I was leading the group of 6, in an area called box canyon when my wife said she smelled something sweet, which I didn't so we continued on. Box Canyon is a rocky area and we were traveling about 5-10 mph when suddenly the second in our group raced up to us yelling fire, fire. I immediately hit the brakes and we both exited and I immediately unstrapped the 2 gallon spare plastic gas can and raced it to a safe place then back to pull out my cargo chest that I also purchased (see pictures of before and after fire). Note that the gas can was on the driver's side and away from the fire. Then we all worked (all 6 of us) throwing dirt at the fire on the rzr. The fire was finally extinguished by someone finding some water. The fire was very close to my wife's head which you will read in the witness report (see witness letter). Please note; my wife and I also smelled gas fumes on occasions, inside the cab, on the return and other rides.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180118-DD514-2147393582. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Polaris 2016 RZR 900 Trail. Source model text: RZR 900. Incident: On multiple occasions my 2016 Polaris RZR 900 has overheated to the extent that the machine left myself and my passenger stranded in the woods for hours. Both occasions occurred after the recall had been fixed at the local dealer where I purchased the RZR new. The first incident occurred trail riding, where we had began to start back for the truck after riding to see a waterfall. The RZR began to lose power and began to jerk before the engine stalled. At that point the engine had reached a level that the temperature light had come on and could not go anywhere or start the machine until it had cooled. On the second occasion I was also trail riding. The RZR began to do the same sequence losing power and bogging to a stall. I stopped the machine to let it sit and cool, at that time I was able to hear the coolant boiling. I then began my journey walking to camp to find someone to tow the RZR back. The RZR only has 213 miles on it.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180117-96EA0-1726927. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Polaris 2016 RZR 900 Trail. Incident: The submitter said he was notified by the firm that his unit was affected by recall # 16-146 and he took the unit to the retailer to have the recall repair. The submitter said since the repair he has noticed a gas odor when using the unit. The submitter has found that the rollover vent valve is defective and believes this is the part causing the fires with these units. The submitter said about two hours after using the unit he notices the gas odor and realized the rollover vent valve shuts, causing the gas tank to expand. The submitter said he has taken the unit three times to the retailer during the past year but since they could not replicate the incident they could not conduct a repair. The submitter said he finally decided to take a video of the incident and he made a hole in the gas tank cap which allows him to see the excessive air coming from the gas tank. The submitter said he sent the retailer the video sometime in September 2017 and the retailer forwarded the video to the firm. The submitter was contacted by the firm and asked to take his unit into the retailer but they refused to tell him how they would address the issue so the submitter said he did not feel comfortable taking the unit to the retailer. The submitter said the incident occurs approximately two hours after using it and during temperatures higher than 70 degrees. He also indicated that he always notices the strong gas odor. The submitter indicated his frustration with the unit because he has had issues since the recall repair and the firm who does not address the safety issue. The submitter said many
