Juicers (271)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 28, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20131111-115A8-2147449991. Matched catalog product: Singer Model # HD6800C 125V~60Hz 0.7A. Source model text: 774. Incident: I thought I had sold my juicer about ten years ago, but it had been in storage and I was elated when I discovered it. I had a bumper crop of apples this year and I thought I'd make some apple juice. The basket strainer broke just like you've mentioned and the plastic cover exploded all over my Mom's kitchen and left a huge sticky apple juice mess with literally 100's of small plastic pieces. My Mom was truly frightened and said we should be thankful that no one was hurt. I was telling a co-worker and she insisted that I contact the company. I said I purchased the product years ago, and she said that a reputable company would want to know about how their product was performing. A web search brought me to this site and your site says that you are still interested in knowing about problems with this product....so I'm doing my civic duty!

Clothing Irons (277)

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20141117-D6805-2147438812. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Singer Model # HD6800C 125V~60Hz 0.7A. Source model text: Singer Expert Finish Household Steam Iron (Model EF). Incident: Iron smoking, potential fire hazard: I purchased a Singer Expert Finish iron from Amazon in December 2011, and have used it 2-3 times per month without any problem since that time. I use filtered tap water for the steam function, as instructed in the owners manual, and have cleaned the iron regularly using its self-clean feature. On the afternoon of November 16, 2014, I had ironed 4 or 5 shirts with the iron set on 7 (Cotton) and using the steam feature. I left the iron turned on, standing upright on the heel rest on the ironing board, while I went to another room to get more hangers. When I returned, no more than 2 minutes later, the iron was beeping and smoke was pouring out from under the soleplate at its tip. The LCD display read ERR and MAX. I turned the iron off, unplugged it, and moved it to the ceramic cooktop where I could turn on the hood exhaust to get rid of the smoke. The iron continued to smoke for 5-10 more minutes, and was extremely hot. The heat was so intense that the plastic trim at the side of the soleplate was bubbling. There was water remaining in the reservoir. There is no mention in the owners manual of any ERR message, but clearly the iron is no longer usable. When I contacted the manufacturer to notify them about the incident, the customer service representative seemed unconcerned about the safety issue (though she - [REDACTED] - did hasten to tell me that the iron was no longer under warranty). I am disappointed in the lack of an apology or any ex

Sewing Machines or Accessories (112)

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240920-D0B31-2147336418. Severity: Injury, Emergency Department Treatment Received. Product: Singer Model # HD6800C 125V~60Hz 0.7A (Singer Sewing Machine Heavy Duty). Incident: I have a very serious safety issue with my Singer sewing machine. I have been sewing over 50 years so I have plenty of sewing experience. In May of 2022 I purchased a new Singer Model #HD6800C serial number 131711071953. The problem is that the machine runs even when I am nowhere near it. It takes off very fast and the only way to stop it is to unplug it. It has happened about 5 times in the past and it happened again today. I called Singer customer service some weeks ago and since the machine is no longer under warrantee, I was simply told to unplug the foot petal and use the hand feature on the machine to sew. I was also told that I am not the first person to report this issue. I was too busy at the time to argue about the response with the customer service person but when the problem happened again today- when I was out of the room, I realized that this is a much greater concern than what I first imagined. Here is the huge issue - I am at risk of getting my fingers caught in the needle when this machine takes off. I also have grandchildren that I am teaching to sew and I truly feel that this machine could seriously injure them if the machine suddenly took off when they were sewing. I know enough to quickly unplug the machine but this is such a shocking and startling event that they may stick their little hands into the needle to stop it. That thought terrifies me. Today it started zooming when I was in the other room and I had to run in to stop it. What if I was outdoors or left the machine plugged in and on and left the home. The least of the damage will be to foul the
