5 confirmed failure reports · Early signal · Data confidence: Low

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20151130-E9D8E-1534890. Matched catalog product: Anchor Hocking cake baking dish. Incident: The dish was in the oven for approximately 35 - 45 minutes. The oven was set to 350 degrees. The consumer went outside to do some yard work and when she returned, she noticed a burning odor. She checked the oven and found that there was a slit in the glass backing dish and some of the casserole had dripped from it down onto the heating element. The consumer turned the oven off and attempted to remove the dish. As soon as she touched the dish with her pot-holder, it began to shatter. The consumer had other baking dishes in the oven at the time and she said glass shards had flown from the cracked dish into the food of the other dishes that were in the oven at that time. As soon as she touched it with her pot-holder, the dish began to shatter even more. There were no injuries.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20121226-23EDC-2147460649. Matched catalog product: Anchor Hocking cake baking dish. Incident: I placed hot rice into a glass baking dish, put a serving spoon into it, and placed the glass top on the dish to keep the rice warm while the family had salad. The dish was placed on a counter top behind the table. The lid of the dish exploded sending glass pieces into the backs of the people on that side of the table and showering over their heads and between them onto the table top. Only the top broke. The bottom of the bowl was fine. Most of the glass was found in little bead like forms, but numerous tiny shards were found in the table cloth, rug, and clothing of the people sitting close to the dish. Had I placed the dish on the table, the explosive action would have been toward the faces of the family and could have been disastrous. I never thought this would happen!

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260215-9C90A-2147323518. Severity: Injury, Seen by Medical Professional. Product: Anchor Hocking cake baking dish (Anchor Hocking glass cake baking dish, 8.5" X 8.5" Heavy, Clear glass, with handles on 2 sides along with an opening to hold it.). Incident: New Years Day ...I had 2 new Anchor Hocking glassware cake baking dishes in my oven set at 330 degrees. When I checked to see if it was done, I could not believe my eyes, total explosion on the top rack, glass and food everywhere. Chunks of glass and small pieces, like sand or dust. I was concerned that the other dish would also explode so I shut the oven and the door. Went to my party without my 2 casseroles. 2 days later I started to clean it up. I knew to protect my hands with gloves BUT I never expected my eyes to get injured! I was using a wet paper towel (w/water) to clean. Soon I was in pain, my eyes hurt. It felt like fine gravel or sand was in my eyes. If I wasn't wearing my eyeglasses it would have hit both eyes worse, I hurried to the sink, flushing out my eyes over and over again. I looked up online about Anchor glass baking dish exploding in my oven. I was appalled that this has happened to many others! They called it glass dust or glass sand that injured their eyes like mine. I thought flushing my eyes would clean them out. My eyes were both red. within 24-30 hours my eyes were stuck together and when I gently separated them, it looked like nasty puss and extra red. A few hours later my eye doctor would be open. He fit me in. Thank God there were no pieces of glass in my eyes, just extremely red and injured. I used prescription eye drops for 2 weeks. I also went to my doctor's office because of a cough and very hoarse voice yet I did not have a cold before or after this incident. My breathing seemed fine but she thought I should have an Xray to make sure my lu
