SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180708-B8287-2147386927. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Anchor Hocking Laurel Embossed baking dish (Anchor Hocking Laurel Embossed clear pink tinted glass 8.25 x 8.25 baking dish). Incident: Anchor Hocking Laurel Embossed Collection bakeware 8X8 baking dish exploded in my oven. Prior to baking, the dish was room temp and the brownie batter was room temp. Per baking directions, I had greased the bottom inside the dish. The dish was filled with batter and placed in the center of the oven at 325 degrees for 50 minutes. About 40 minutes into baking, I heard a loud explosion sound but had no idea where it came from. A few seconds later, there was a second explosion. I realized it was coming from the oven and carefully peered in. The dish had completely exploded into millions of glass shards. I have checked online and found multiple reports of similar incidents. Even incidents where they have exploded in people's hands while they were removing it from the oven. Thank God my 9 year old granddaughter was not removing it when this happened!
