SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20150828-EA660-2147428899. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Electrolux ICON E36GC70FSS1 (Cooktop). Incident: There are 4 issues with my Electrolux ICON cooktop E36GC70FSS1 1) Big pots come so close to the knobs in the middle of the cooktop, that you have sometimes no chance but to be too close to the knobs. This is not only a design error, the knobs start melting once a big hot pot or pan like a canning pot gets close to them. 3 of my 5 knobs have burn marks by now (2.5 years), one needs to be replaced as it melted to a point where it was deformed. Suddenly, I saw the knob steam and had I not been right there, it would have probably caught fire. Scary with a gas cooktop! 2) If you clean the knobs while leaving them on the cooktop and you don't watch it carefully, suddenly you might have turned one half on so that gas starts streaming in your kitchen without any warning. There is no light or off-switch dangerous! 3) Sometimes the burners don't start right away when turning them on. So after a few tries, they suddenly turn on with a big flame and poof. I expect this by now, but easy to burn your fingers holding a pot or pan. 4) If you take the knobs off for cleaning, food crumbs might fall in the holes below the knobs and there are little tightening metal parts within the knobs that might fall out by taking the knobs off the top for cleaning. Those are considered part of the knob and it won't work without them. Once one is lost, you need to replace the entire knob for over $30...., never mind the hassle to find the part number of the installed cooktop, which is right under it. No fun if the cooktop is installed in a drawer cabinet. The worst of all is, that Electrolux ignores thes
