Microwave Ovens (264)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 16, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20191229-CFBEA-2147375710. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Frigidaire FFCE2238LW (Microwave oven). Incident: We have a Frigidaire Microwave oven that's not more than 4 years old. The oven has a feature called sensor cook which is supposed to sense the food you are cooking and automatically adjust cook time and power level being used and then shut off when it senses the food is done cooking. I've used this feature several times for cooking a potato. One time I noticed the microwave was cooking the potato a bit long and stopped the microwave and the potato was very over cooked. I just figured it was a flook. After several more times the feature worked as it should, but the last time it did not. Yesterday I went to cook a potato with sensor cook and this time I wasn't in the kitchen to catch it and it not only overcooked the potato it started the potato on fire. If my brother-in-law hadn't walk into the kitchen because he smelled smoke it may have started a house fire. When the microwave door was opened the potato was on fire and the house was filled with heavy smoke that still exists in the house and microwave. We both were extremely upset about what could have happened. When we figured the microwave didn't do what it was supposed to I said this product needs to be recalled. So today after looking for recalls on Frigidaire microwaves I noticed a string of comments from others who had the same problem with Frigidaire microwaves, further proving that Frigidaire needs to recall this product. Here is the link to the complaints: [REDACTED] I would like this product to be recalled before something serious happens. [REDACTED]
