Government / agencyIndexed Oct 16, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260824-2C495-2147311976. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Frigidaire GRFN2853AFC (Frigidaire Gallery Stainless steel with a bottom freezer and double fridge doors up top.). Incident: We purchased a Frigidaire Gallery GRFN2853 AFC refrigerator on 02/20/2025. 18months after purchase, the fridge would not cool anything down inside. We had a tech from the community come out and they found where the flammable gas line (refrigerant) failed and started a small fire internally damaging the line, board, coils and the housing surrounding all the the internal equipment. Frigidaire wants to charge us 350.00 to have their tech come out. This is a catastrophic failure. They keep hiding behind their 1 year warranty. However, that warranty is for regular issues, not catastrophic failures. The Louisiana redhibition law requires a 2 year warranty for catastrophic failures. They will not compromise, refund or comply with state laws. There has been no effort by Frigidaire in any way, shape or form to remedy the issue. Even just a manufacturer's willingness to try and accommodate any portion of our food loss, dorm fridge (emergency after this one failed) Has been met with essentially too bad. This is terrible. A company would rather go to court than fix, repair, or refund a customer. They feel we are too poor to hire an attorney and stay in the fight for what's right. Please do not Frigidaire products. We almost lost our home because a shady company has shady practices.
