Gas Ranges or Ovens (279)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 16, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260512-C03E1-2147319468. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: G.E. JGBS66REK8SS (GE. 30-in 5 burners 5 cu ft free standing natural Gas Range Model JGBS66REK8SS. Serial AD410700P.). Incident: On January 31, 2026, I purchased a brandnew GE freestanding gas range to replace my previous GE gas range, which had developed a gas leak. I have included the [REDACTED] report documenting the first leak. Although the original range was less than three years old, it was already out of warranty. Due to the safety risk, I chose to replace the unit at my own expense rather than attempt a repair. The replacement GE gas range has now also begun leaking gas. I have included the report from [REDACTED], the appliance repair company GE selected to perform warranty service. Because this unit is still under warranty, I contacted GE. They scheduled a repair appointment and refused to provide a replacement. The technician inspected the appliance in my home and confirmed that there is an active gas leak. This is the second GE gas range in a row that has leaked gas in my home. My concerns include the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, fire hazards, personal injury, or death. GE has not demonstrated concern about the repeated gas leaks or the safety implications. Their position appears to be that I should continue using or repairing appliances that present a clear safety hazard. I do not know the manufacturing date of the current unit.
