Government / agencyIndexed Oct 16, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180709-8ABF0-2147386916. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: GE Cafe Gas Range GE Cafe Gas Range -- Model #CGS990SET5SS (General Electric Cafe Gas Range. Gas cooktop. Double oven. Lower oven was the problem / emitting the carbon monoxide when used.). Incident: I purchased my GE Cafe Gas range in December 2014 for approximately $3,000. Starting in March 2018 the gas oven was emitting large amounts to carbon monoxide anytime it was used. It was likely emitting CO for much longer, but I had my home smoke detectors replaced with smoke / CO detectors and they were constantly being triggered. My local gas company ([REDACTED]) and fire department (Austin Fire Department) both came out to my house to measure the levels of CO after the oven was turned on and it was emitting at deadly levels. The gas company and fire department both disabled the gas to the range / oven and told me it was unsafe to use. There is actually a safety "tag" on the oven saying it is unsafe. I can provide a copy. GE and other appliance repair have been out over 7 times and finally are calling the oven unrepairable. So I am now having to replace an oven I purchased not even 4 years ago. This needs to be researched and fixed by GE...people's lives are at stake. I am a widow with two daughters.
