SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220209-EF868-2147357644. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: General Electric Model # PT800SH8SS (GE Profile Built-In Combination Convection-Microwave/Oven Wall Oven). Incident: On Thursday, February 3, 2022, I was in my kitchen and heard a loud bang and loud whirring noise coming from my GE wall oven. When we opened the oven door, we saw arcing fire at the back of the oven and saw that the heating element in the back had melted. The fire burned out very quickly. There was black smoke. We immediately shut the oven door and went to the fuse box to turn off the fuse. The fuse had already switched off. I did not touch the oven until the next morning. As I opened the oven door, I heard breaking glass and saw that the glass insert in the door was completely shattered. I have called GE and a technician is coming Friday, February 11. There were no injuries to the four adults in the kitchen. The oven was turned on to preheat before roasting vegetables: Oven Model: GE Profile Model PT7800SH8SS, Serial # LR064436Q. Installed in August 2020 and operated normally since then. I had turned the oven on.
