Incident: I have a KitchenAid 30 inch, 4 element electric downdraft range. About 2 weeks ago, my boyfriend was putting away dishes from the dishwasher and brushed up against the control knobs for the elements. He did not realize he had even touched it, let alone turned it on until the stovetop started smoking from one of the cutting boards that was on it. I had thought it was just a fluke, a random occurrence. However, this morning the same thing happened to me. I don't even remember brushing up against the stove as I was only making coffee and our coffee pot is no where near the control knobs. But as soon as I walked back into my kitchen not even 5 mins later, I knew something was wrong because I smelled the same smell again. One of the other elements was on and burning a cutting board. It was not the same element my boyfriend had turned on. I am deeply concerned about this because if I ended up doing it, anyone could. I am concerned a child could rub up against it and accidentally turn on an element. Not to mention whether a child or adult turns it on accidentally, there is potential for personal injury especially if you do not know the stovetop is hot, and the major issue which is something catching fire and burning a house down, which could be fatal. I implore you to please look into this matter. I would hate to see anyone get hurt or injured because of this.
