Government / agencyIndexed Oct 16, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20251022-66F7E-2147326902. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: LG LREN6325XE (30in Glass Top 5 burners 6.3cu ft Air Convection Oven Freestanding Electric Range). Incident: While baking with the new LG range/oven which was less than a month old my wife started smelling a burning plastic smell in the kitchen. As we searched for the source of the smell, we started to see light smoke and a stronger burning plastic smell coming from the new electric range. We thought the range was on fire so we got our fire extinguisher and then pulled the range away from the wall and then unplugged the unit. Upon inspection of the source of smoke and burning plastic smell, we found 3 problems 1. The power terminal block on the back of the electric range was melted and cracked. 2. Both the black wire and the white wire coming down from inside the electric range were loose and could be moved by hand as if they were never fully tightened during the manufacturing of the unit. The screws that both wires were attached to were not fully seated and the terminal for the black wire was charred with black soot 3. The power cable was installed without a strain relief clamp No other property damage or injuries
