Government / agencyIndexed Oct 16, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20231228-76244-2147343193. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: LG WT7100CW (PRODUCT CODE: T1487EGPT.ABWETUS 120 V, 60 HZ, 5 A Fully automatic washing machine Below bar code: 0I1F5552P8GJ008TWLR4M128). Incident: An LG washing machine that we bought brand new about 3 years ago exploded. It is completely warped and exploded so violently that is now wedged between our dryer and stuck in our wall. It caused much damage to the surrounding area, our dryer which we can now no longer use, and a leak. I set a load to wash with 2 throw blankets and a fitted sheet - the washer was about half full - not even close to a full load. LG has provided terrible support and confirmed that they will only pay for the washer and not the other damage it caused. They have taken 0 accountability and in fact said "it was our fault it blow up." This is disappointing and quite shocking. How could we make the washing machine blow up. Thankfully, we were in a separate room when it exploded. The explosion was so loud that I thought a bomb went off, I pressed 911 on my phone and was ready to hit the call button at any second. I am sharing this so that LG can take accountability for this explosion and I hope it stops this from happening to others.
