SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20251222-91F08-2147325302. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Product: Midea MAD74109APK (Small appliance, kitchen air fryer made by Midea, black in color, model number MAD74109APK Midea HeatXpress 7.8 qt. Basket Air Fryer. The unit did not include a trackable serial number.). Incident: On December 12, 2025, the Midea air fryer I purchased new on August 28, 2025 malfunctioned during normal household use. The unit began emitting smoke and burning from the inside, creating a strong odor of fire. An error code E2 appeared on the display. The malfunction caused smoke damage to the surrounding kitchen wall and electrical socket. When I attempted to shut off the unit, I sustained thermal burns to my fingers due to excessive heat from the appliance. The air fryer was clean, unobstructed, and used according to manufacturer instructions. There were no foreign objects, grease buildup, or misuse. After the incident, the unit continues to power on but emits a burning smell, indicating an internal electrical or temperature sensor failure (thermistor malfunction). The product did not have a serial number affixed. The appliance remains in my possession and is available for inspection. I believe this defect presents a serious fire and burn hazard to consumers.
