Electric Coffee Makers or Teapots (217)

130 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 16, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240311-650BC-4654943. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Mr. Coffee Advanced Brew JWX36RR (Electric coffee maker). Incident: The coffee maker has 2 heaters under the plate that the carafe sets on. One is the boiler and the other maintains the coffee makers temperature. The heater for the maintaining the coffee makers temperature, either shuts down as the result of a time out, or because one turns of the unit off manually. That process of terminating the heating plate because it times out, does not shut off and leaves the coffee maker in the on position continuously when it is used. Therefore, the consumer does not use the automatic feature. He unplugs it when done, to prevent a potential fire hazard. He tested coffee maker several times to see if it responded to another cycle, but it did not. This does present a potential fire hazard to uses who may not be aware of this. The consumer also noted that there have been safety problems in the past with this companys coffee makers.
