Electric Coffee Makers or Teapots (217)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 16, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210128-2E1B6-2147366212. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Ninja CF091 (This is the Ninja Coffee Bar CF091 series. It's black and stainless steel. It is 12" L by 6"W). Incident: Our Ninja Coffee Bar coffee maker caught fire. Normally my husband is gone at that time, but luckily for us he was home and in the kitchen when it started to spark and arc and smoke and he immediately took it outside. Had he not been home, it would have progressed and we could have had a kitchen or house fire, since I was in the other part of the house taking a shower! We could have been injured or worse! The coffee maker had brewed a pot of coffee an hour before and it was just keeping warm. The unit was two years old. My daughter and son-in-law have the same unit as do his parents. Will it happen to them? Ninja has been uncaring and will not return my phone calls. I even offered to ship the unit back to them so they can figure this out. The people who answer their customer service line gave me a case number and told me someone would call me back. Two days later I called them and had to repeat my story to customer service and I was told someone would contact me in 3-5 days. This unit cost over $200 and the only thing customer service says is that it's out of warranty. Is it OK for a company to feel they have no responsibility for the safety of consumers after two years? That I should expect that a fire could occur and be OK with that?
