Electric Counter-top Ovens, Broilers or Toaster Ovens (216)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 16, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180823-F2A35-2147385993. Severity: Injury, Level of care not known. Product: Oster TSSTTVSKBT (Oster Model TSSTTVSKBT Toaster Oven; apparent build date of 05 10 (did not receive email back from Oster confirming that the sticker was in fact a date code). It is a 6 slice toaster/convection oven meant to sit on counter. The handle is attached to door glass.). Incident: Just after closing the door on my Oster Convection Toaster Oven, I was just to the right of it and the glass door exploded. While the door appears to be tempered glass, the force of the failure sent the metal handle and pieces of glass off of the countertop. There was glass spread over several feet of my kitchen and counter top. I discovered today that pieces had flown into the open peanut butter jar 8 inches to the right of the toaster oven (discovered when I went to make a sandwich). While this toaster oven is about 8 years old, it seems extremely dangerous that it would have such a forceful failure. I first swept up the pieces, then used a sweeper to go over the areas, and finished with a [REDACTED] (wet mop pad). However, I ended up with a very small sliver in my foot later in the day. I used the [REDACTED] 4 more times to ensure that no shards remain. It is disconcerting that not only did the glass fail in such a way, but that it left tiny pieces in addition to the fairly dull larger pieces.
