Incident: I am reporting a safety concern involving a Samsung gas range, model NX58K9850SS/AA, with front-facing burner control knobs. My 12-month-old grandson was able to reach the front burner control knobs, turn one of the knobs, and ignite the gas burner. No injury or fire occurred, but the burner did ignite successfully. This created a serious safety concern because nearby combustible materials such as paper towels or kitchen items could have caught fire, and there was also concern about potential burn injury to the child. The stove was being used in a normal residential kitchen environment. The concern involves how easily the front control knobs can be activated unintentionally by a young child. After the incident, I attempted to locate compatible child-safety knob covers or protective devices for this specific model. Due to the tight spacing and angled front-knob layout, standard child-safety products do not fit or function properly on this model. I contacted Samsung regarding the concern.
