SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200527-93800-2147372066. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Samsung RF28HMEDESR (Samsung refrigerator/freezer/ice maker). Incident: We purchased Samsung refrigerator model #RF28HMEDBSR from Home Depot on 9/14/15. Price was $2,438. Unfortunately, that was before I was made aware of numerous Samsung product issues including the ice maker design flaw and chronic freezing/thawing, temperature regulator failures, and class action lawsuits in the US and other countries. The temperature reading on the front panel has consistently been incorrect as we compared that to a thermometer, which we placed inside the unit. We have also had issues with the beverage drawer, where we have had bottles freeze and explode because of a discrepancy in temperature from the reading. Additionally, on 4/30/2020 we noticed the ice maker was totally frozen and was not producing any ice. We called 2 different Samsung authorized repair servicers and paid $50 to have a technician come out on 5/13/20 who recommended that we replace the ice maker at our cost of $370. Since this problem is a know product defect, as mentioned above, we did not want to throw good money after bad, and opted to pursue a product refund. We contacted Samsung directly and they put us on hold for nearly 1.5 hours, then hung up on us. Further, we filed a complaint with the BBB in NJ, the corporate office and plan to file one in FL, our home state.
