SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260508-78119-2147319638. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Whirlpool WED5010LW1 (Whirlpool Electric Dryer - Purchased September 2025 Model # WED5010LW1 Serial# ME3689248). Incident: I am filing this complaint regarding a Whirlpool dryer purchased from Lowes on September 20, 2025, for over 700.00 including tax. Model # WED5010LW1 - Serial# ME3689248. During the service visit, the technician advised that there had been a major failure within the dryer and stated they could not determine what component failed first or what specifically caused the failure. I was further informed that multiple major electrical components would require replacement. When I questioned why Whirlpool would not simply replace a less-than-one-year-old appliance that experienced a severe electrical malfunction and potential fire hazard, the technician stated that he personally agreed replacement would make more sense, but that the decision was Whirlpools to make. Whirlpool, however, stated they would only authorize repair if the technician deemed the unit repairable. This response is unacceptable given the circumstances. This was not a minor mechanical issue. This was a significant electrical failure involving burned wiring and an unexplained overheating event inside an appliance operating within my
