Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20110416-11817-2147480139. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: LG LG (LG Gas Dryer Model #DLG1320W). Incident: Smelled a burning smell in the home after starting a load of clothes in our LG clothes dryer Model # DLG1320W Gas dryer. Purchased the dryer in 2009. Dryer is properly vented with a flexible foil hose and cleaned often. Internal lint trap is cleaned before every load. Took back panel off dryer and observed a large lint buildup in base (floor) of dryer that had caught fire while dryer was being used. Frequently clean in and around dryer and appliance is not in an unusually heavy dust area. All of the lint buildup appeared to be excess lint that the trap inside the dryer is unable to capture. Lint dust settles on the internal floor of the dryer, underneath the drum, where a large majority of the wiring and drum belt/motor sit. Completely vacuumed out and removed all of the lint that could be reached and reinstalled back panel of dryer.
