Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20110425-19594-2147479793. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: GE The model # is -JGBS60DEK6WW.. Source model text: JPE26W085WW. Incident: On Sunday, April 24th, we turned on our electric oven (GE Spectra Model #JPE26W085WW) and a heating element on the lower right side sparked and started to burn. There was no food in the oven and there was no residue on the heating element, or other apparent causes for this spark. We turned off the oven, but there was still a visible electric current on the heating element, which began to melt. We unplugged the oven, which caused the spark to dissipate. The element was completely melted -- if we hadn't taken immediate action, it could have easily developed into a dangerous house fire.
