Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20110609-824D2-2147478364. Matched catalog product: Mr. Coffee 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker BVMC-PC14BL2. Source model text: DRX5. Incident: I have a Mr. Coffee electric 4-cup Coffeemaker (model DRX5) which was purchased in November 2009. I have used it alost daily since. It has developed a dangerous problem. The plastic cover over the coffee basket and water well does not seal to prevent steam from escaping around this cover. The steam generated in the brewing process appears to expand the plastic cover and causes it to pop open to release superheated steam. The steam has burned the face and hands of the user.
