Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20110723-A8A32-2147476943. Matched catalog product: Apple Mac Pro Mac Book HD Retina Display. Source model text: Macbook White 13" Early 2008. Incident: I own an Apple Macbook 13" (White, Early 2008 model) bought in June 2008 that has a batter that is bulging outward. The battery pack is coming apart from the inside. It is like opening up a battery pack to look what's inside. I am using my laptop on a desk as opposed to using it portably on my lap (the way a laptop is used most of the time) since I'm afraid the toxic contents of my battery will leak out. Apple seems to acknowledge the issue, but do nothing about it unless extended warranty ($300) has been purchased for the laptop. There have been various other people with similar issue; some have successfully gotten them replaced by Apple free of charge since it is a chemical and fire hazard, while others (like me) have not been able to do so.
