Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20110901-16BA9-2147475744. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 665.13543N412. Source model text: 665.13819K601. Incident: The past three times that we have run our Kenmore dishwasher it has produced a burning smell and white smoke during the wash part of the "smart wash" cycle. The smell is coming from around the control panel and not from within the dishwasher. Each time the smell and smoke got worse. The last time we used it the smoke filled our kitchen. We have stopped the dishwasher mid-cycle each time it has happened and are no longer using the dishwasher. We have consulted a repairman who said this was a recurring problem with Kenmore dishwashers manufactured by Whirlpool during this time period and that we should discontinue use because it is a fire hazard.
