Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20110928-4DD6D-2147474854. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 665.13543N412. Source model text: 665-95781000. Incident: I was making muffins tonight in my Kenmore oven Model # 665-95781000. The oven was set to 350degrees. The first batch of 12 came out perfect. The second batch came out darker and when I pulled them out they were a little smokey. I figured I would bake the last batch of only 10 minutes instead of 12 like the others. About 5 minutes later, I smelled this awful smell. I walked into the kitchen and saw a fire on the muffins. My first reaction was to turn the oven off, then I opened the oven door and put the fire out on the muffin. I noticed how hot the oven felt. I started a fan to get the smoke out of the house and my kids were all scared. My husband came in and noticed that the top heating element was still glowing orange and that it wasnt shutting off. The only way we could turn the oven off was to turn off the breaker. This was a very scary event.
