Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20111019-AF855-1209513. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 795-77314-6000. Source model text: 795.775436000. Incident: The consumer stated that her side by side refrigerator has 2 internal lights at the top of the refrigerator sporadically turn on when the refrigerator is closed. The light bulbs are each 60 watt appliance bulbs. The consumer stated that she would open her refrigerator find that her refrigerator has a burning smell and also find the light bulbs are very hot. The consumer felt that this issue could develop into a fire hazard. The consumer contacted the firm who is also the retailer, the same day of the incident. The firm agreed to send a technician that same day to inspect the side by side refrigerator. The technician had told her that her concern is indeed a safety hazard and that the current model of refrigerators made by the same firm have a different component to prevent this hazard from persisting. The technician stated that the control board is the reason that her refrigerator is apparently keeping the refrigerator lights on when the door is closed.
