Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120107-696FD-2147471552. Severity: Injury, Level of care not known. Product: Dell XPS 17 (Dell XPS 17 lap top computer). Incident: I received electrical shock from newly purchased Dell XPS 17 laptop computer, order number 885737523, Service Tag (SN) 4Q3V3S1. Computer was plugged into its AC power supply and sitting on my lap. As I was working on the computer, I received an electrical shock at the point where my right upper thigh was in contact with the bottom of the laptop computer. The shock was brief but definitely longer than a typical household static discharge. The shock lasted long enough for my thigh muscle at the point of contact to briefly contract like the electrical muscle stimulation devices used by physical therapists. The shock lasted at least a full second and stopped when I reacted to the pain and moved the laptop computer. I was sitting in a chair and not in contact with any other electrical devices, furniture or grounded in any way.
