Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120130-BC950-2147470777. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 795-77314-6000. Source model text: Model # 795.75546400. Incident: My bedroom and kitchen share the same wall. I noticed the plaster/drywall on my bedroom bubbling and falling apart. My husband moved the refrigerator in the kitchen and behind it we found black smoke on the wall and the drywall/plaster had heat damage and crumbled when you touched it. The fan in the back of the refrigerator was not working and overheated. Almost looks like it may have caught fire. I researched to see if anyone else has had this sort of problem before. I found that there was a recall on my model in 2005 for this reason. I called Sears and they said there is no recall and that there will be a charge of $129 for them to just come out and look at my refrigerator. I'm thankful that I noticed the wall in my bedroom as this could have caused a fire. Sears is not helpful. They finally told me just to call LG who manufactured the Kenmore Elite in 2004. Called them and they said to call back tomorrow and ask for the executive supervisor.
