Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120304-ACC11-2147469591. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 665.13543N412. Source model text: 665.92022. Incident: For the third time now since having my electric range, all of a sudden while cooking food in the oven, the temperature skyrockets out of controL, burning the food. The food would have caught fire if I was not in the kitchen when it happened. Then, once the burnt food has been removed from the oven, I cannot get the oven to shut off. The heating element continues to burn bright orange and produce major amounts of heat until we shut off the breaker to the oven. In the past, we have been able to turn the breaker back on and the oven has reset itself and has seemingly returned to normal. However, on this most recent occasion, once we turned the breaker back on, the heating element turned back on without us turning the oven on. When we came back into the house about 30 minutes later, we could smell something burning, which was the oven. We had no idea it would turn back on by itself.
