Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120316-6CA95-2147469218. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Char Broil Char Broil Patio Bistro Gas (LP) Grill, Model 126015 Series. Source model text: 463268008. Incident: On Saturday, Mar 10, 2012, Char-Broil Barbecue Model No. 463268008 knob caught on fire. The plastic knobs are highly flammable and when the knob caught on fire, my husband happened to look over and see it flaming high and melting onto our deck. If he had not seen it immediately, the deck would have likely caught fire and possibly burned the house. We spoke to representatives of Char-Broil who refused to take responsibility even though we told them we would be reporting this issue to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. My husband suggested the problem could be resolved by placing a metal washer on the shaft behind the knob so that the heat or flame cannot get to the plastic knob. Another solution would be to make the knobs out of metal or some other non-flammable material.
