Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120505-F7958-2147467855. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 665.13543N412. Source model text: 665.17059400. Incident: We started our Kenmore Elite Dishwasher in the Smart Wash Mode, approximately five (5) minutes after entering the active wash cycle I smelled burning electrical and smoke and walked back into the kitchen to find smoke pouring out of the right front section of the control panel. I shut the machine off and secured power at the breaker. After the unit had cooled I removed the front panel section and found the source of the smoke was a small electrical fire on the control board. Upon further inspection I found burn damage at the following board components: Relay K2, Resuistor R9, Pin P8 on Connector #2. There is also evidence of heat damage at pin P6 on Connector #1, Capacitor C22 and a relay pack that I am assuming is K3 but there is too much soot damage to read the board. Un attended this fire, being in an under counter appliance could have easilt resulted in a house fire.
