Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120716-CCB93-1259983. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Panasonic NN-SN671S (Panasonic Microwave Oven Tabletop Model NN-SN671S). Incident: I purchased a Panasonic microwave oven in November of 2011. I recently noticed that the oven was becoming increasingly hot when heating things in the oven. I noticed a charred area on the interior of the oven near the magnetron. The plastic had partially melted and was blackened. The area was approximately 1 inch by by an inch and a half. It appears to be located adjacent to the magnetron which is located on the right side of the oven behind the control panel. There was also paint peeling on the left side of the oven on the upper left edge of the door and the door opening. The item model number is NN-SN671 S. It was manufactured in September of 2011 in China. My concern is that the area where the charred surface appears might begin burning and start a fire if the plastic reaches its ignition point. I do not know whether this is an isolated incidence or whether similar units made in China will experience similar episodes. I believe that this matter needs to be investigated in order to prevent a more severe event such a fire to occur. Thank you for your consideration
