Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120728-9B5B2-2147465304. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Whirlpool WRFF3736SZ French door refrigerator. Source model text: ED5FHEXLQ01. Incident: I woke up and opened my bedroom door on Friday, July 27th to the smell of smoke and my living room and kitchen very hazy with smoke. Went quickly to look around and couldn't find anything. I woke my husband up and he searched in and outside the house and in attic. The smell and smoke got very bad and we were fixing to call 911 when we noticed smoke rolling out from under our refrigerator. My husband quickly pulled the refrigerator out away from the wall and unplugged it. When we got it outside, my husband found that a little white box and all of the wires connected to the side of the compressor had burned. Later in the evening, we found all of the reports telling about WHIRLPOOL knowing that this could happen but chose not to tell the consumers. Just very blessed to have been home to find it. Just the day before, I had left my two teenage children home sleeping while I went to a meeting at school. Just very scary to think what might have happened had I not been at home and woke up...........
