Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120801-F0691-2147465156. Matched catalog product: Char Broil Char Broil Patio Bistro Gas (LP) Grill, Model 126015 Series. Source model text: 463247209. Incident: I have owned a Char-Broil Commercial Series infrared grill for almost 3 years, so it is beyond the 2 year warranty. Recently when removing the grill grates, emitter surfaces and flame tamers for cleaning I noted that the firebox flange which supports the flame tamers had corroded sufficiently to become detached from the firebox itself as the welds attaching it were completely destroyed. This allowed the flame tamers to drop closer to the burners which I believed might create a safety hazard. In June I reported this to Char-Broil through an on-line chat at their website and the technician I chatted with agreed that it may make the grill less safe. He offered to sell a replacement firebox but could not tell me whether the firebox had been revised to prevent this problem from recurring 2 years from now. He also suggested calling customer service directly as he could not do anything but sell the parts.
