Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120814-6238B-2147464762. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Generac Generator G0070431; Transfer switch. Source model text: Guardian 15KW. Incident: I have a whole house Generac Guardian generator with a GTS 12 breaker load center. This uses a Generac Transfer Switch Part # C2237. At 4:45am on 8/14/12 i was awoken by a very loud pop from the basement and my fire alarm sounding. The power had gone out over night and the generator ran all night without problem, when the power came back on at 4:45 the switch must have failed and overloaded causing it to burst into flames. I opened the smokey extremely hot box to flames and melting wires. The flames would not just blow out, i had to use a fire extinguisher. I contacted Generac customer service and was informed it is not longer under warranty, "Sorry". My house could have burnt down and my family could have died, "Sorry" does not seem to cut it.
