Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120824-0B02A-2147464416. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart DGB 700. Source model text: DGB-700BC. Incident: We own a Cuisinart Burr Grind & Brew model DGB-700BC coffee maker. My husband is awake for work day around 4:30 a.m. and I normally sleep until approximately around the time my husband leaves, or shortly thereafter. The program was set to start the brew process at 4:30 a.m., as is customary in our home. My husband awakened me in a bit of a panic to say that he, needed my assistance to determine the root cause of the smell of electrical smoke in our kitchen. We quickly determined that it was the coffee pot, and observed a thin trial of white smoke arising from the lower back portion of the unit. The unit was immediately unplugged, never again to be plugged in; at least not in our home. I was unnerved to imagine how the story would be told if the unit over-heated after my husband left if I were not yet awake! After locating online similar stories from various other consumers, I called Cuisinart. The agent never requested the age of the unit nor purchase date, but I assume this is because we are on file with their company - the unit in question was the replacement of a warranted unit that failed less than two years before. I was advised that I'd receive the shipment in 7-10 business days. Outrageous!! Surely Cuisinart, if any company, can understand the plight of a rural-living, work-from-home, happily-caffeine-addicted customer who would have to travel approximately 10 miles one way for a commercially made cup of Joe! What's more, I would hope that my circumstances are not so u
