Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120829-78FC9-2147464255. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 790.9446.3700. Source model text: 665-16473700. Incident: Dishwasher was running for about 20 to 30 minutes when it began spewing smoke from the door. We opened the door and the dishwasher continued o run, ignoring all button presses. We ran to the box and turned off the breaker. The entire floor was filled with a powerful white haze of melted plastic and electrical wire. There was a low sheen from the melting plastic buttons, indicating that there was a fire in the door. Afraid of possible electricity still present we placed a wet towell over the odor, opened the odors and windows and went outside. After 15 minutes, we checked and eventually removed the interior door panel, and exposed the control board. It was charred with burnt wires. There was burned plastic and the control pod was partially melted. The entire door was severely damaged. I later noticed lung irritation and believe I received several lungfuls of smoke from burning plastic
