Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20121130-B954A-2147461427. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Sony VPEC360X (Sony Vaio Laptop Computer). Incident: I have a sony VPCEC390X laptop that has been overheating and has had other issues related to functionality since the date of purchase. After making several phone calls to Sony Support, it took so long to get a box to ship it for repair that the computer was now out of warranty and Sony said that I'd be responsible for repairs. The overheating is to such a degree that all the labels on the underside of the laptop are burnt, and if I don't use a cooling pad under the laptop it doesn't take long before it starts to feel like my skin is burning or that damage may be happening to my furniture. Repeated attempts to solicit assistance from Sony regarding their support issues has yielded me no other alternatives beyond seeking assistance elsewhere. I have been trying for nearly 2 years to get some sort of help with this faulty product, I am at the point where I will either have to purchase a new PC or pay for repairs for a product that should have been repaired under warranty.
