Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130110-461F2-2147459988. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Matched catalog product: LG LG Gas range, Model LDG4313BD. Source model text: LDG 3016ST. Incident: Cooking on the LG double oven gas range produced burning odors which I could not at first figure out where it was coming from. After a few weeks I noticed that the handles on my pots and pans were browning. One day as I was boiling some water using the superBoiler burner, the handle twisted from being weakened from the heat coming from the burner. The flames shoot exceptionally high on this range in order to reach/heat the pan. The grid is higher than a lot of other manufacturers. The high level of the grid means the fire has a longer reach to get to the pan, so the space in between leaves more opportunity for anything like pot holders, scarfs, long sleeves, pan handles, etc. to receive direct heat, intense heat or flame contact. And I have experienced all of this. This is not a safe product for children or adults to be around. I am especially concerned about my pan handles that seem to have melted away - making them extremely weak and risky to handle or even to continue using. The fumes from the melting handles eventually give you some warning that something is amiss with this range, but you may not make the connection right away because in my case this was a new stove so I thought it was burning off its newness as I was told by the installer that it would take awhile for that particular smell to go away. Handling pans with weakened handles makes it dangerous to cook on because the handle may tilt or worst, give way all together and spill hot food or liquid on-not just the c
