Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130131-E58CB-2147459249. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Keurig B40 (Keurig B40 single cup coffee maker). Incident: I have a Keurig Elite Coffee Maker that is about 4 years old. It has started coming on by itself. I press the power button to off but if I leave it plugged in it will come on, heat the water and dispense the hot water continually until the water storage bin is empty, then it will continue to try to pump. The first time it started on it's own I was within hearing distance and hear the sound of the water running out. I have been unplugging it since but the other day I forgot and the above episode happened where it kept pumping out hot water till the bin was empty. However, you could hear the pump trying to pump more water. Since the unit has a program that is supposed to stop pumping when the water is low and engage a warning light to tell me that it needs more water, that function must not be functioning either. It works if I make a cup and unplug it when I'm done but if this is happening to others....as it is because there are movies of it happening on You tube....if this had happened when I wasn't home I fear it would have caught fire as the water bin must have been hot because it is not a little warped.
