Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130208-9AFE9-2147458965. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: HP dv7 (Pavilion laptop). Source model text: HP pavilion dv6500 laptop. Incident: I plugged in my HP pavilion dv6500 laptop and turned it on. Aproximately 5 minutes later I heard what sounded like a shot gun blast. The laptop had exploded. I was sitting about 7 feet away in my kitchen. The laptop was on the island. I jumped up, took the laptop off of the island (it was burning the countertop) put it on the stove and put the flames out. I started to assess the damage to the countertop and take pictures with my cell phone, then it burst into flames a second time. I put it on the floor and extinguished it again....I then took it outside for fear of another explosion and called HP. There was damage to the countertop, the stove and the kitchen was covered in black soot.
