Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130212-2BE8B-2147458874. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Apple Ipad (This is the usb charging cord for an Ipad). Incident: My power cord was plugged into a powerstrip but was not charging anything. It was loose on the floor. At 1:00 in the morning my wife woke me up to tell me that the house smelled funny. I could instantly smell burning plastic. I searched the house and discovered it was from our room. The plastic piece was hot even though it wasn't charging anything and the cord front was completely had melted plastic and blackened metal. It charred a spot on our carpet. This was just on the regular floor.
