Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130426-6C61F-2147456622. Severity: Unspecified. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart DGB 700. Incident: After grinding and brewing coffee in our 5-yr. old Cuisinart Burr Grind & Brew, Model DGB-700 Series, the warming plate remained on and overheated. The unit began emitting a dense smoke which smelled like burning plastic. The smoky smell stayed in the room for 4 to 6 hours after unplugging and removing the coffee pot from the premises. For more very similar reports of incidents with the Cuisinart Grind & Brew, go to cuisinartsucks.com. Cuisinart is aware of these incidents but has not recalled these machines. They claim that there is a safety turn off in the machine and that an actual fire could not have happened. IF YOU ARE USING ONE OF THESE MACHINES, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TURNING IT OFF IMMEDIATELY AFTER BREWING.
