Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130705-DBE5E-2147454520. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Model 790.xxxx. Source model text: Elite. Incident: Loaded dishwasher and started machine. While cleaning up other items I walked back into the kitchen and white smoke was pouring out of the top of the machine (where the latch and controls are located). I went to open the door and flames came out of the top right side about 6-9 inches tall. I immediately closed it and smoke kept pouring out but the flames died down. Kitchen smells like an electrical fire. Thankfully I was around. We usually turn the dishwasher on as we go bed. Never again.
